Data coverage & methodology
EMSHospitalList maintains a structured reference of emergency-care facilities, capabilities, contacts, and access information across borders. This page explains the scope of that information, how to read the published figures, and how to report a correction. TheList is one way to access the facility reference.
What “covered” means
TheList currently lists hospital-directory locations in 65 countries and territories across North America and Oceania. Regional indexing for those areas is described as complete. Europe is in progress. “Complete” describes the regional indexing effort; it does not mean every hospital, helipad, designation, or service in a country is listed. Records and the available detail vary by location.
Use the country-by-country list and map to find the currently listed locations. A country on the list is a geographic scope indicator, not a guarantee that a particular facility is present.
MaydaySOS has a separate emergency-number and location registry in a wider set of countries and territories. That registry is not the same as TheList’s hospital directory and does not imply hospital information is available everywhere.
What the numbers represent
65 countries and territories counts the locations listed in TheList’s completed North America and Oceania regions. It includes both independent countries and territories or dependencies.
10,600+ facilities describes the scale of directory facility entries. A facility entry is not a promise that it is open, accepting patients, or able to provide a listed service at this moment.
751,000+ verified data points refers to individual pieces of directory information, such as a facility contact, designation, coordinate, or helipad detail. It does not mean 751,000 facilities. The figure should not be read as a separate certification of each facility or as real-time confirmation of operational status.
These are rounded, published directory figures labeled September 2026. Coverage and record details can change between app releases and website updates.
How to interpret a facility record
Depending on the facility and region, TheList may show contact information, clinical designations or capabilities, helipad information, GPS coordinates, and links to external navigation. Some records are more detailed than others. The presence of a capability in a directory record does not establish current staffing, capacity, hours, acceptance criteria, or transport suitability.
Use the app’s offline download before a shift, trip, or deployment and confirm the relevant data is on your device. Offline access provides a reference copy; it does not automatically update records while disconnected. External maps, calls, and other services may need a connection.
Source review and changes
We maintain source references and review notes for directory information. Our working data fields include source URL and type, source and verification dates, verification status, confidence notes, and supporting context when available. The presence and age of supporting information can vary by record.
Hospitals, designations, phone numbers, and access details can change without notice. We do not publish a universal refresh interval for every record, and a website update date is not a verification date for every facility. When a detail matters to a current response, confirm it directly with the facility or appropriate local authority.
Read each date in context
A source publication date, a record verification date, an app download date, and a website update date describe different events. A newer website page does not establish that every facility record was checked on that date. Downloaded information reflects the copy available when it was downloaded.
Report a correction or ask about coverage
Use the contact form or email contact.thelist@emshospitallist.com. Include the facility name and country, the current detail you believe needs attention, the proposed correction, and a public source URL or document date when available. If two sources disagree, include both references and describe the difference so the information can be reviewed in context. Do not send patient records or sensitive medical information.
For product features and download instructions, see TheList. For traveler information, see MaydaySOS.
Field-reference limitation
TheList is an information reference for logistical awareness. Follow local protocols and confirm current facility information directly. The app does not provide medical advice, patient triage, dispatch, or a real-time facility-capacity feed.
