Calls require an available phone connection. Where supported by your phone and the country’s networks, emergency calls may use another available mobile network when your own carrier has no service. GSM/112 calling still requires cellular coverage.

On iOS, place and landmark names are included free. On Android, the free version shows your street address without place or landmark names. Google’s paid place-lookup service would add ongoing lookup costs and depend on an internet connection. We weren’t willing to build a per-lookup fee into an app people open in an emergency, or make this feature stop working the moment the signal drops.
So we built MaydaySOS’s own offline map data. It works without an internet connection after download, and building and landmark names are included with a continent pass.
